Home Teeth Whitening – Is it Better Than Dental Treatment For Getting Rid of Yellowing and Stains

Aside from the fact that there are several over the counter products for home teeth whitening kits, dentists are also offering treatments as well. But what makes them different and which is better?

People who have sensitive teeth are recommended to go to a dentist before a treatment. But since there are many people who don't have the money or time, most people simply opt for the products they can buy at the store and use them at home.

However, there are some precautionary measures which must be done before the process starts:

* You should get prophylactics cleaning first since it removes dirt and plaque from your teeth.

* Before applying any product, your teeth should have been brushed and flossed.

* After the process, don't drink or eat for a few hours.

Teeth whitening gels and trays

There is no point in denying that getting a bleach applied by the professionals cannot be compared to using whitening gels and trays. This is because the process of bleaching depends on how strong hydrogen peroxide has been mixed with the gel. The trays can be worn for up to 15 minutes at a time. After that, it will take several days to see the final results.

While there is a similarity between products which you can buy from a store and can get from your dentist, there are some important differences between them.

The biggest difference can be seen in the results. The kits which you get from your dentist demonstrates faster results as compared to those you can buy in the market but they are more expensive too. The trays and gels which are supplied by the dentist are specially moulded to your mouth and the dentist will only do this procedure in the surgery, even though it is the same process you can use at home. The ones you can buy in the market has been prepared in one size which may sometimes cause irritations to your gums.

Teeth whitening strips

Aside from whitening trays, you can also buy strips from drug stores. A prominent feature of this option is that they are easy to use, economical and are reasonably effective. Because of this many users trust this option. In addition several surveys have shown that strips have produced better results as compared to other products, except trays and gels.

Teeth Whitening Toothpastes

Several toothpastes contain baking soda, whitening chemicals and even abrasive agents. Although these ingredients can whiten the teeth, they are not intended for bleaching. This is because they don't have enough hydrogen peroxide and they are rarely effective.

Other Products

Once in a while, you may come across new teeth whitening products like dental floss, chewing gums and mouthwashes. It is still best to ask the advice of your dentist for any recommended treatments.
