Dental Report – What Every Person Considering Cosmetic Dental Treatment Needs to Know

EVERY dental or medical treatment has potential drawbacks. Cosmetic dentistry is no different. The problem is there are few dentists who actively discuss with patients considering these extensive and expensive treatments the true down side issues.

Personally, I believe you should always make choices particularly those regarding your own body, with all the available information. That way at least if there are problems or challenges down the road and you were informed about these possibilities you'll know how to react and what needs to be done.

So what types of problems might you run across with cosmetic dental treatment?

Let me take some of the common treatments and outline the potential issues with each.

1. Bleaching: Now this seems to be a fairly easy and low concern treatment. It is done in nearly every dental office today. The vast majority of the time there are few if any significant problems with bleaching. In fact this is a treatment I readily recommend and feel comfortable doing.

Having said that, there is still potential for problems. The bleach used today is quite potent. In many cases a fairly strong light is used to help activate some bleaching materials. Both the bleach and the heat from the light can lead to significant sensitivity of the teeth. It is possible, although very unlikely, for a tooth to suffer permanent damage.

2. Bonding: This is a material used to change the shape and color of the teeth. It is a relatively low cost treatment to fix chipped or discolored teeth. The problems here often stem from the material itself.

Composites (a type of plastic) can stain over time. So they eventually and at times quickly lose their nice look. Additionally they are not as strong as some of the better and more expensive materials available. This leaves them somewhat more prone to breaking and requiring more frequent touchup and maintenance.

3. Porcelain Veneers: This is the treatment you see used on most of the TV shows. It is a small very thin piece of porcelain that is bonded to the front of the teeth to affect a shape, color or even position change in the teeth. They are great for closing spaces between the teeth and are another highly recommended cosmetic product.

What you need to know before having them placed on your teeth is this:

o They are expected to be on your teeth for the rest of your life. However, they won't last that long so you must expect to replace them every six to ten years or so. This can be fairly costly.

Four Common Causes of Feline Sneezing

In most cases, feline sneezing is a result of your cat's respiratory system functioning properly. However, your cat may possibly be sick if he starts to sneeze a lot. There are various things that can cause an episode of feline sneezing. Let's take a look at some of the most common causes.

Infection

An upper respiratory infection is one of the most common causes of feline sneezing. Infections that cause sneezing episodes are usually caused by the Adenovirus or the Parainfluenza virus. These viruses are highly contagious and can easily infect your cat after he comes into contact with other animals. The infections produce other symptoms besides sneezing such as swollen glands, coughing, and mucus discharge.

Rhinotracheitis

Another common cause of feline sneezing is the rhinotracheitis virus. This virus is responsible for causing herpes-1 in cats. Feline sneezing can be a difficult condition to treat if it is caused by this virus. Kittens infected with this virus can suffer permanent damage to the linings in their nose.

Allergies

Feline sneezing can also be caused by allergies. Your cat can be allergic to household cleaning chemicals, smoke, or even perfume or cologne that you wear. Similar to people, some cats also have episodes of feline sneezing at certain times of the year. This is likely due to the fact that the cat is allergic to something in the air.

Airways

One of the final causes of feline sneezing is a change in your cat's airways. Fungal infections can occur in your cat's nasal passages and cause problems. Also, tumors or nasal polyps can form and cause feline sneezing. This usually affects only one nostril and commonly occurs in older cats.

Gluten Free Diet and Your Child

A gluten free diet is not easy for adults to follow. But this challenge is made ten times more difficult for a child with gluten intolerance or Celiac disease. If you have a child on a gluten GF diet this presents many of its own difficulties you will have to overcome. A lot of common grains contain gluten and these grains are used in recipes for many foods. It is true, however, that being on a strict gluten free diet will dramatically improve a patients condition and relieve all symptoms associated with Celiac disease and gluten intolerance.

It is nearly impossible to tell if food has gluten in it solely judging by its name. It is important to know how to read food labels if you are on a GF diet. These facts present especially difficult situations for children. First of all children, even teenagers (even adults), generally do not know the main ingredients in most foods. To make matters worse if a child who is on a GF diet cannot read or of a child can read but cannot understand a food label it is beyond difficult (sometimes dangerous) for them to choose their own meals, eat with friends or at another persons home.

As a parent you will have to be especially careful with monitoring your child's eating habits and GF diet. You will have to know what foods they can and cannot eat so that you can teach them which foods they can and cannot eat (this gets easier as time goes on). For your child to be relieved of all symptoms it is necessary for them to remain on the gluten-free diet for life and not "cheat" and go off of the gluten free diet because doing this can cause permanent damage.

It doesn't matter if your child is just beginning a GF diet or your child has been been following a gluten free diet for a year now. Because it is apart of your child's daily life there are always more questions about how to effectively follow the gluten free diet.

There is a lot of GF diet information available to help you make the best gluten free decisions for your child and to teach them how to make GF decisions on their own.
